1993-1997 Chevrolet Camaro 5.7L LT1 / Pontiac Firebird 5.7L LT1 Supercharging Systems
The standard 5.7 liter LT1 engine that was used in the 1993 to 1997 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird has sequential port fuel injection, reverse flow cooling system that channels cooler water to the cylinder heads firts, and a gear-driven water pump to ensure that coolant will flow even if the accessory belt breaks. The LT1 is a 90 degree V, with 350 cubic inches and a compression ratio of 10.5 to 1. It has 275 hp and 325 lb ft torque.A Vortech supercharging system can increase the horsepower of the LT1 engine from 275 to 385. It will increase torque from 330 lb ft to 395 lb ft. The Vortech High Output (HO) system increases the horsepower to 400 and delivers 405 lb ft torque. Reviewers say that the optional fuel management upgrade that includes a high flow fuel pump and fuel management unit is a worthwhile upgrade. The impeller and housing design for the system was tested in Vortech's own supercharger test cell. The HO systems have an air/water dual pass charge cooler configuration that results in additional horsepower gains. Duct connections on the inlet and discharge connections have heat resistant silicon sleeves and stainless steel clamps.
The kits for the 1993 Camaro or Firebird start at around $4,700.00 for the standard Si-Trim system, and go up to $6,000 for the HO system. The supercharger systems for the 1994 to 1997 models begin at $4,500 for the standard Si-Trim system. The highest price is for the T-Trim High Output polished supercharger system, at $6,500.
All Vortech supercharger systems for the LT1 are smog legal in all 50 states. They come with a high flow air intake with reusable air filter and polypropylene inlet ducts to minimize restriction and ensure superior fit. Kits also come with heat resistant silicone hose couplings and premium grade flexible hose. Additional pieces include cast aluminum and/or roto molded urethane air discharge tubing, compressor bypass valve and aluminum mounting brackets heated to T-6 specs and designed for OEM look. Most of the complete systems come with a three year limited manufacturer warranty.
